This Pre-Screening Tool can be used to determine if you may be eligible to receive CalFresh benefits. This Pre-Screening Tool is not an application for CalFresh. An application for CalFresh benefits must be made at your local CalFresh Office.

CalFresh was established to improve the nutrition of people in low-income households. It does that by increasing their food-buying power, so they are able to purchase the amount of food their household needs. CalFresh benefits are used instead of money at the grocery store.

The Department of Public Social Services has the following brochures available in English and Spanish only that contain information about CalFresh and they may also be used as CalFresh outreach material.

The value of your CalFresh benefit depends on the size of your eligible household and other eligibility.

A "household" is a person living alone or living with others or a group of people who live together and normally buy and prepare their food together. Parents and their children under age 22 who live together are considered to be a household.

Community Based Organizations and Faith Based Organizations can earn money for assisting with CalFresh applications. This site provides more information on how to become eligible to participate in this new project.
